Of the manuscripts that pass down Pelagius's commentary, some have a strong Vulgate character while others are closer to the Old Latin. Is there any way to decide between the variant readings in the different manuscripts? Pelagius's comments provide us with such an opportunity. By examining the language used in his comments, it becomes evident that Pelagius used a Vulgate text. This confirms the notion that the Vulgate for the Pauline Epistles existed by the early 5th century.
