Mientras aún estaba en la escuela, comenzó su carrera profesional, contribuyendo en DC. Ha Colaborado con Steve Bissette, Alan Asherman y Alan Moore. Fue colaborador habitual de EPIC MAGAZINE y produjo dos novelas gráficas antes de crear THE ONE en 1984. Formó su propio sello editorial, KING HELL PRESS. Es cofundador del sitio de cómics de Internet Comicon.com. También es cofundador de Eureka Comics, especializada en la creación de cómics para el aprendizaje y la alfabetización. Recientemente completó THE OUTLIERS, una serie de tres libros para McGraw Hill Education, pionera en el uso de técnicas modernas de narración de novelas gráficas para enseñar matemáticas a estudiantes de secundaria.
