本書選自許智偉博士在台發表過的文章，分從「推動技職教育」，「倡導績效責任」，「介紹各國教育」，「創新教育觀念」，「懷念師友恩情」等五個範圍來輯集，每一輯八篇，共分為四十篇，都是從事教育工作嘔心瀝血的經驗，不僅印證了作者的心路歷程，而且旁證了 台灣六十年來教育發展的歷史，值得研究教育者的參考，更值得有志創新及改革的年青教育家們的借鏡。許智偉1931年出生於上海， 1949年來台。先後畢業能上海新陸師範、台灣法商學院及德國明斯德（Munster）大學，獲哲學博士學位。歷任台北成功中學教師，政治大學副教授，台灣省立教育學院（彰化師範大學前身）創校校長，台灣省教育廳廳長，中興大學、東海大學、台灣師範大學兼任教授，淡江大學歐洲研究所所長兼區域研究中心主任，柏林自由太學客座教授，駐丹麥及泰國代表。現任中原大學董事、淡江大學特約講座教授。主要著作有《德國師範教育》、《美國生計教育》、《北歐五國的教育》、《丹麥史》及《西洋教育史新論》等。
