Alasdair MacIntyre se graduó en la Queen Mary University of London y obtuvo un Master of Arts en las universidades de Mánchester y de Oxford. Empieza su carrera de profesor en Mánchester, pero a lo largo de su carrera enseña en universidades tan reconocidas como las de Oxford, Leeds y Essex, en Gran Bretaña, y las de Boston, Duke, Yale y Notre Dame, en Estados Unidos.
