Synopsis "Ict Policy, Research, and Innovation: Perspectives and Prospects for Eu-Us Collaboration (Ieee Press Series on Technology Management, Innovation, and Leadership) (in English)"

This book provides an overview of selected information and communication technology (ICT) and policy topics, without going deep into the technicalities in each topic. The book begins with an analysis of industrial drivers and societal needs, as well as the barriers, and then dives into specific technology perspectives (Internet of Things, cyber physical systems, 5G, big data) and related policy perspectives. A comparison between the EU and US is provided, in terms of the research, innovation and, when relevant, policy landscape of both, and perspectives for future cooperation are outlined. Later chapters provide policy perspectives about some major issues affecting EU/US development cooperation. Closing chapters discuss how the development of these new technologies are changing our conceptions of fundamental aspects of society, considering, for example, the ethical aspects of these technology-inspired changes and when and how collaborative endeavors should cross geographic (e.g. EU-US), technological (e.g. 5G, IoT/CPS, Big Data/AI/ML) and disciplinary (e.g. engineering, natural science, mathematics, social science) lines.
