Whether in his early photographs from the 1970s documenting the surf culture of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, or his later editorial work for publications such as Vogue Brasil, Mittledorf’s images are celebrations of light and the human form. With Next, the artist once again pushes the boundaries of photography, eschewing traditional forms while radically recasting everyday urban scenes into vibrant, graphically layered images that recall the pioneering works of László Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray.
