Així, la Dama Negra -o la Mort- s'enamora d'una dona bellíssima, ajuda a morir dignament un malalt incurable, és gentil amb l'home que mor quasi abandonat, acompanya la noieta que vol avortar a l'hospital on amenaça els doctors amb l'arma pròpia (la mort), o es mostra irritada o adolorida quan perd la persona estimada o és objecte d'engany o escarni. És a dir, com escriu Albert Turull al pròleg, la Dama Negra no és una especulació filosòfica sobre el fet de la mort, sinó una aproximació literària, lliure i distesa a la morta com una presència natural.
