Synopsis "Leonor de Inglaterra, Reina de Castilla N.E."

Eleanor was the consort of Alfonso VIII and an English Lady who revolutionized the culture of the thirteenth century medieval Castile. This is a rigorous essay centered on the life and cultural contributions of Eleanor of Plantagenet of England, Queen consort of Castile, daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine, who lived in a medieval Reconquest Castile that was trying to set its own court system thanks to the great work of her husband, the Castilian king Alfonso VIII. This Queen of Castile represented a change in the role of women, following the example of her mother -Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was Queen of France and England, and a universal model for women-, for the Europe of the last half of the twelfth century and the early thirteenth century. In this new volume of the series Historia Incógnita, Miguel Romero also analyzes the most important milestones in the political life of Alfonso VIII, her husband, and takes us to a brief journey through the life of her mother; it would be impossible to properly understand the life of Eleanor, the protagonist of this essay, without both of them. She was a precursor of the development of the troubadour lyric, that came from the French Occitania, and opened the door to a more courtly version of troubadour lyric and popular cultism. She also helped to promote the Cistercian architecture and supported the building of the Sigüenza and Cuenca cathedrals in Gothic style; she also promoted the construction of Las Huelgas and El Hospital del Rey in Burgos. This book is the fascinating biography of a woman outside of her time who lived with passion and love in the Reconquest Castile of thirteenth century.
