It's a strange irony that while raising effective, self-motivated children is hard work at the beginning, it ends up being easier in the end. It is relatively easy to raise ineffective children because all we really need to do is sit back and let nature take its course. Caring for ineffective children, however, is a lot more work in the long run because they are less independent, less responsible, more needy, and far more demanding.
