Synopsis "Overland: The Story of the old Russellian Eurasian Expedition, 1967-1968"
Based mainly on diary notes, approximately 60 pages of photos and reminiscences '40 years on', Overland, Overstretched, Overturned charts the almost ill-fated progress of The Old Russellian Eurasian Expedition 1967 - 68. Inspired by the Oxbridge First Overland expedition to Singapore in the mid 1950s, three ex-school friends in their early twenties set out from London and, via Germany, headed for somewhere in the Middle-Far East. At least as far as India, and maybe further. Travelling in a recently scrapped VW minibus, they are inexperienced, under-equipped, under-financed and without any really useful sponsorship. Without heeding the appalling winter conditions through the Balkans, they make Athens base camp after ten days. Replenishing expedition funds by working illegally, they escape the watchful eyes of the military junta after six months and head east...to a near-disastrous climax on their return journey through Pakistan.
