Pierre Bonnard (1867–1947) war ein französischer Maler und Grafiker des Post-Impressionismus. Seine von einer kontrastreichen Palette leuchtender Farben geprägten Kompositionen sind zwar noch dem Gegenständlichen verhaftet, zeigen in der Spätphase aber bereits Züge zur Abstraktion und machten ihn zu einem Hauptakteur der modernen Malerei. Sein Werk umfasst Landschaften, Porträts, Frauenakte, Interieurs und Stillleben. Neben Paul Sérusier, Edouard Vuillard oder Maurice Denis zählt er zur 1888/89 gegründeten, von den Arbeiten Paul Gauguins und japanischer Druckgrafik inspirierten Künstlergruppe der Nabis.
