FÉLIX LOPE DE VEGA CARPIO (Madrid, 1562 – 1635). Dramaturgo y poeta español, revolucionó el género dramático en el Siglo de Oro. En 1577 ingresó en la Universidad de Alcalá y más tarde se puso al servicio de diversos hombres poderosos. Convertido en un autor famoso y un digno padre de familia tras romper con su amante, Lope recibió dos duros golpes en apenas un año: las muertes de su hijo y su esposa en 1612 y 1613, lo que le sumió en una profunda crisis que le llevó a vestir los hábitos. Llegó incluso a oficiar misa. De ese período son obras como La dama boba, El perro del hortelano y Fuenteovejuna. Tanto en cantidad como en calidad, su obra es inabarcable, especialmente su teatro, género en el que el volumen de su producción es difícilmente cuantificable, incluso por los expertos.
