Anne Brönte era la más joven de las hermanas Brontë. Al igual que sus hermanas Emily y Charlotte, ha pasado a la historia de la literatura a pesar de su corta vida y con solo dos novelas escritas, que publicó bajo el seudónimo de Acton Bell. Esta novela fue tachada de inmoral por sus contemporáneos debido a la dureza de ciertos pasajes. Anne murió de tuberculosis.
