He lived in Marin County until his family moved to Sonoma Valley in 1963. After graduating from high school in Sonoma in 1973, Michael attended Santa Rosa Junior College and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Following college, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence (CV-62) from 1979 through 1982. In 2007, Michael began writing the biography of his mother and her family's experience in a Japanese prison camp during WWII and completed the manuscript after his trip to the Philippines in 2008. His highly praised book, Through My Mother's Eyes, was published by Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency in September of 2008. Michael wrote the award-winning screenplay adaptation, Under the Rising Sun, the following year. Besides creative writing and radio, Michael is also a technical writer at Keysight Technologies in Santa Rosa, California. He is married to Angela McCoy and has a son, Thomas, who lives in North Las Vegas with his family.
