Synopsis "Tsukiyo (in English)"

Ikuro Suzuki is a young rising photographer born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. While he was looking for a way to express himself through music or art, he came across a photobook of Nobuyoshi Araki, a leading photographer, and decided to learn photography on his own. While working from dawn till dusk in a pub and a café, he would take photos of people he met in town until he chose to work as a scaffolder to cover the income dropped drastically due to the 3.11 earthquake. Tsukiyo (moonlit night) is a black-and-white photobook contains a number of pictures Suzuki captured in Tokyo and his hometown Hamamatsu about the time when this 3.11 (the Great East Japan Earthquake) happened in 2011. Under this circumstance, he ended up living in a small apartment with his mother who abandoned him when he was a child and his little brother. Suzuki calls this time a chaotic period and cannot forget about it. To him it feels like they all happened in his dream but those photographs he took prove not. Those people he captured in the pictures are the reality. You can glimpse sensitivity and toughness coexisting fleetingly in his vivid photography.
