Synopsis "Un cinéfilo en el Vaticano"

En 1990, durante un congreso cinematográfico en La Habana, Román Gubern conoció a un sacerdote catalán llamado Enrique Planas que resultó ser el dirigente de una institución que desconocía: la Filmoteca Vaticana. Cuando Gubern se instaló en Roma como director del Instituto Cervantes, el sacerdote catalán lo contactó y le propuso participar en las preparaciones vaticanas para celebrar el centenario del cine. Esta propuesta le permitió indagar en la Filmoteca Vaticana, su colección de películas religiosas y las leyendas en torno a otro tipo de materiales; elaborar una propuesta de lista de mejores películas con valores ejemplares (en el libro hay tres listas vaticanas oficiales, donde las películas se clasifican según sus valores religiosos, sociales y humanos y artísticos) y participar en la designación del santo patrono del cine.
