A pesar de tantos intentos por comprenderla, delimitarla o definirla, la literatura va escapando siempre a las limitaciones, va continuando en relato infinito en el que se mezclan palabras, sueños, filosofía, arte, amor y muerte. Este libro analiz, en la primera parte, la obra de Proust, mostrando cómo la escritura va proporcionando poco a poco al autor su única lógica posible, la del relato. La segunda parte abre caminos a las relaciones entre filosofía y literatura, recogiendo las teorías más recientes al respecto, y ofreciendo la discontinuidad de los relatos como antídoto contra totalizaciones y totalitarismos que se consideren poseedores de cualquier verdad definitiva.
