On the first day of his senior year, Shawn McLeod meets an exciting new girl in the parking lot of the Russellville High School. The young lady, Dani Bradberry, had moved from her north Georgia home to live with her grandparents after losing her mother in a tragic accident during the summer. She is an only child and her father, a traveling salesman, didn't want to leave her home alone. They become very close, as they spend as much time together, as they can. Their intense love affair leads them to put plans for college on hold as the young couple gets married, shortly after graduation. Shawn gets a job and with the help from their parents, they buy a little home on the edge of town. Shortly, after their baby is born, two tragic events cause Shawn to lose his job and their little home. Suddenly, the young family finds themselves homeless, broke, and desperate and they move into an old depression era log cabin in the north Georgia mountains left to Dani by her grandfather. In the process of leveling an area around the old cabin, Shawn accidentally unearths an amazing treasure worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Their desperate attempt to secure and protect the treasure sets off an international media sensation. When all hell breaks loose and the little family seems doomed, a historically unique legal situation arises to produce an absolutely amazing ending.
