Encuadernación: Rústica Tras regresar de China, donde había pasado seis años, el catalán Eduardo Toda parte a Egipto en 1884 como cónsul general de España en El Cairo. Viaja por el país y visita un gran número de monumentos, templos y yacimientos arqueológicos, que culmina participando, en 1886, en el descubrimiento de la tumba de Sennedjem, en la necrópolis de Deir-el-Medina. Son dos años y mil kilómetros visitando Abydos, Déndera, Tebas, Asuán, Philoe... y por supuesto Gizeh. Nos cuenta acontecimientos recientes como de la apertura del Canal de Suez, la campaña militar británica que acaba con la trágica muerte de Kirchner en Jartum —que daría lugar a la famosa película Kartum (1966) con Lawrence Olivier, y Charlton Heston—, así como la vida social de aquel Cairo.
