On the right of the 19th of August, Captain Jewitt was lying in his cot ruminating on the variety of characters he had on board, wben his mind became, as ir were, providentially excited to the necessicy of being vigilant in observing the conduce ot his crew. He immediately got up, put on a dark-coloured cloak, and, unobserved, reached the fore pare of the gun deck on the larboard side. Hete the lights had been cxtinguished fot the purpose of concealing the proceedings of the conspirators; from the opposite side he overheard a party closely engaged in mutinous Communications. He was thunderstruck at discovering the cruel and inhuman intentions ot the se wretches; but when he understood that at midnight, it being then 40 minutes past 11, the scene of murder was to commence, and that he was to be the first victim of they barbarity, by stabbing him in his cot, he waited to hear no more, but instantly hurried back without being perceived.
