Ziel dieser Studie ist die sowohl theoretische als auch empirische Erforschung des Konstrukts Achtsamkeit. Hierzu dient die aus der buddhistischen Theravada-Tradition stammende Vipassana-Meditation. Im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird Achtsamkeit einerseits in den Gesamtkontext der Lehre des Buddha eingeordnet; andererseits wird ein Bezug zur westlichen psychologischen Forschung und Psychotherapie hergestellt. Im empirischen Teil wird das Konstrukt Achtsamkeit mittels Faktorenanalyse überprüft und ein Messinstrument entwickelt. Der «Freiburger Fragebogen zur Achtsamkeit» (FFA) stellt in seiner Endform ein valides, reliables und homogenes Instrument zur Selbstbeurteilung dar.
