Desde muy pequeño, Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) demostró —además de un espléndido talento musical— apego y simpatía por los menos afortunados. De esta manera, en su juventud, triunfando paralelamente en su carrera como organista, desarrolló su pensamiento con el estudio formal de la Teología y la Filosofía. Posteriormente, para plasmar sus ideales, estudió Medicina y dedicó su vida a sanar enfermos en Lambaréné, una pequeña localidad del África Central, en el actual Gabón.

Tras superar no pocos contratiempos en su proyecto, este pacifista alsaciano logró concientizar a la humanidad entera sobre los graves efectos del dominio occidental y sobre la importancia de ayudar al prójimo. Su gran labor sería reconocida en 1952 con un Premio Nobel de la Paz.
