Alfredo Gangotena (Quito, Ecuador, 1904-1944) vivió en París desde 1920 donde forjó amistad con escritores como Max Jacob, Jean Cocteau, Valery Larbaud, J. Supervielle y H. Michaux. Escribió buena parte de su obra en francés y publicó en las más prestigiosas revistas. En 1927 regresó a Ecuador, y aunque nunca se integrara en sus círculos culturales, sí volvió a la creación en su lengua materna.
