Die Bemühungen von Pemex, seine Reserven zu erhöhen, haben Explorationsstudien verschiedener Disziplinen auf dem Festlandsockel des Golfs von Mexiko gefördert. Das Tampico-Misantla-Becken ist eines der Ölbecken Mexikos. Die Erkundung des Tampico-Misantla-Beckens begann um 1860, die Ausbeutung wurde 1904 aufgenommen. Bis heute wurden 5 869 Mio. Barrel Öl und 8 447 Mrd. Kubikfu Gas gefördert; es macht 21 % der Erdöläquivalentreserven im Jahr 2018 aus, wovon 67 % auf Öl und 37 % auf Gas entfallen (Encuentro Internacional de Energía, Mexiko 2019). Dies ist eine systematische Studie über repräsentative Arten benthischer Foraminiferen, die in Sedimenten aus dem Typusgebiet der miozänen Escolín-Formation des Tampico-Misantla-Sedimentbeckens im Bundesstaat Veracruz, Mexiko, gefunden wurden. Die Morphologie der Arten wird neu beschrieben und illustriert.
