Losing a treasured stuffed animal, lovey, or blankie can be devastating and traumatic for both child and parent. A child may experience grief and loss. A parent may frantically try to replace the loss.An article in "Smart Parents," August 16, 2017 by Jassmin Peter-Berntzen discusses "5 Ways to Help Junior Handle Losing His Toy." This includes: "Acknowledging your child's grief. Avoid shoving a substitute toy at them immediately. Try not to keep their hopes up of finding the toy if that is improbable. Give your child time to feel sad and offer him/her comfort."Experts also say that a child who has loved a toy can usually love another toy. So you may be able to offer another toy to replace the loss, but this will need to be done with time, love, care and understanding.Emma searches for her lost friend in this sweet story.
