He is responsible for thousands of men in warships and the merchant ships of this convoy that must get to England for that country to survive. This is the time of the war when the Allies finally have enough ships and aircraft to counter the Germans in Atlantic. The Germans are still very formidable. The Germans are desperate to stop supplies from reaching England, otherwise they know it will get mush worse for them.
