Synopsis "Castilla tajeada de sed como mi lengua"

Investigando la estadía consular de Gabriela Mistral en Madrid, entre 1933 y 1935, el autor halló en colecciones privadas y públicas un abundante material inédito de la mayor poeta de nuestras letras: cartas, entrevistas y artículos que permiten iluminar su lúcida interpretación de la España republicana, justo antes de la Guerra Civil. Además, a través de ese material es posible percibir su apego a lo criollo por rechazo a lo castellano, y, más hondo, los aspectos ocultos de su angustia existencial, de su pérdida de la fe y de su recuperación en un sincretismo búdico-cristiano; es decir, toda la crisis religiosa y la indigenización que expresará en su obra Tala. El autor es profesor de Estado en Castellano de la Universidad de Chile y doctor en Filología Románica de la Universidad Central de Madrid; fue académico en el Instituto de Letras de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, es el mayor estudioso de la obra de Gabriela Mistral, poeta, artista plástico y crítico literario.
