Católicos del bando rojo rompe muchos clichés de la etapa franquista y también de años recientes. Recoge las historias de un buen número de personas destacadas -Manuel de Irujo, los generales Batet, Escobar, Rojo, Luis Lúcia, Manuel Carrasco i Hormiguera, José Bargamín, Claudio Sanchez Albornoz, Ventura Gassol, el padre Patxi- que, sin abdicar de ser católicas y en algunos casos afirmándolo de forma rotunda y explícita, siguieron fieles a la República durante la guerra. No se trata sólo de bautizados ni tampoco de los que únicamente se acogieron a las ayudas de la religión in artículo mortis, a punto de morir, como muchos de los que iban a ser ejecutados, sino de quienes eran reconocibles como católicos por su vida y sus actitudes.
