Synopsis "Children of Rage: A non-zombie novel (in English)"

They weren't zombies, but acted like it. The rage virus turned victims into murderous, cannibalistic monsters whose single motivation was to feast upon living, uninfected people. Someone created a pathogen that got loose, infected people and created the ragers. In anger, these creatures preyed upon the uninfected, leading to the downfall of normal society. Governments fell. Those in the military, attempting to curb the ragers, became infected themselves. Disease control specialists were behind the curve as they tried to find a cure for the virus, and some became infected in so doing. Some people hunkered down in place while others simply didn't know how to protect themselves. Forward thinking individuals armed themselves, but others would not have anything to do with weapons. A small boy protected a younger neighbor girl as a busload of people became infected. One young man discovered a long-hidden tunnel in Southern California, while an ex-Pfc. found a cache of advanced weapons that had belonged to a super-secret patriotic organization founded by two ex-presidents. Then came the hooligans, outlaws, and brigands, bent on turning catastrophe into their own good. Yet, some people thought it was time for a party! Led by a rugged redheaded warrior, a huge black man with a heart of gold, and a reclusive Iroqouis Indian, a large well-armed group of survivors part a move toward a remote place in Oregon. Among them is a take-no-prisoners widow, a physician, a theologian with a penchant for firearms, and a black female ex-buck sergeant dealing with her own demons. On the way this group fights off hordes of ragers, a variety of outlaws, and rescues some kids. Among the rescued are some preteen girls who have been sexually abused by their recent captors. Others showed some kids how to defend themselves. And there is a man with a trained guard wolf who joins half-way to Oregon. Later an artillery battery teams up with the caravan.. As the large group move toward their destination, a middle-aged man saves two teen girls, recent escapees from would-be rapists. They team up and attempt to follow the large group, but go off in the wrong direction. They fight off attackers, both rager and hooligan, but are targeted by a rogue government hit team that wants them dead. Narrowly avoiding assassination, the man and the two teens meet a kindly trucking firm owner who gives them a never-used, monstrous train-like vehicle to help in their attempt to navigate Oregon's mountains and reach the large group of caravaners. But amateur radio enthusiasts broadcast the small group's exploits in fighting off attackers, leading to a mounting narrative about the three "avenging angels" as their fame spreads before them. Will any of the survivors make it to Oregon? Will the man and the two teen girls catch up with the large group? Maybe.
