Marco Bartoli, en la estela de su maestro, Raoul Manselli, ha sabido cumplir plenamente el oficio de historiador y hacer hablar a los escasísimos textos disponibles sobre Santa Clara, analizando con fineza, no sólo lo que dicen, sino también lo que callan, con sus más sutiles matices. Una gran biografía histórica sobre Clara de Asís, en la que el autor no vacila en recurrir ampliamente a las cartas del proceso de canonización de la santa, que tuvo lugar a poco de su muerte, en 1253, y en las que se registran los testimonios de algunas de sus compañeras en la vida conventual, así como de los beneficiarios de sus milagros, y de los habitantes de asís que, quien más quien menos, la conocieron en vida. El esmerado análisis al que el autor somete los textos le ha permitido extraer notas e informaciones muy interesantes.
