Jack goes through many adventures, initially turning to crime from desperation, wandering around the country and beyond, finding love several times... Daniel Defoe (1660-1731) was an English trader, writer, journalist, pamphleteer, and spy, most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe. Defoe is noted for being one of the earliest proponents of the novel, as he helped to popularize the form in Britain with others such as Samuel Richardson, and is among the founders of the English novel. He was a prolific and versatile writer, producing more than five hundred books, pamphlets, and journals on various topics, including politics, crime, religion, marriage, psychology, and the supernatural.

Daniel Defoe (Londres, 1660-1731) fue novelista, periodista, poeta e historiador; su vida transcurrió por oscuros vericuetos: viajes, empleos diversos, amistades políticas y misiones secretas. En su obra cultivó distintos géneros, como la sátira: El verdadero inglés de Inglaterra (1701), El medio más rápido para acabar con los disidentes (1702) y Augusta Triumphants o Cómo hacer de Londres la ciudad más floreciente del mundo (1728); la novela realista: La aventuras de Moll Flanders (1722), Diario del año de la peste (1722) y Roxana o la amante afortunada(1724), y el ensayo económico-político: Consideraciones sobre el crédito público (1724), El perfecto comerciante inglés (1726) y Plan del comercio inglés (1728).
