CRADLE MOUNTAIN Paul Smith. Illustrations - John Adam. In 1970 an Australian poet, Paul Smith, read in a newspaper of the death of a young fellow-poet on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. He was deeply touched by the young man's fate and immediately began writing a poem in praise of the poet, Stephen Baxter. He contacted a friend, the artist John Adam, who read his poem and was inspired enough to illustrate it. The book was published in a limited edition to good reviews and quickly sold out. Stephen Baxter's family contacted him and told him he had truly captured the life and unfortunate death of the young poet. This newly revised edition is close to that of the original and contains all of John Adam's inspired illustrations.
