Synopsis "Cuatro Cuartetos"

Thomas Stearns Eliot nació en 1888, en Saint Louis, en el seno de una familia burguesa y conservadora. Su actitud vital estuvo siempre muy unida a su poesía: en 1928 se definía como clasicista, monárquico y anglicano, y justamente por entonces comenzó a escribir los “Cuatro cuartetos”, primera manifestación de su polémico cambio poético. “Cuatro cuartetos” se inserta en el concepto de poesía que se generalizó en Estados Unidos y Gran Bretaña después de la II Guerra Mundial. Según la crítica académica, “Cuatro cuartetos” es el poema ideal, redondo, cerrado y perfecto, que con una sintaxis discursiva y una organización lógica tiene su modelo en el poema lírico. Texto clásico de la poesía en lengua inglesa, es una experiencia ineludible para comprender la poesía anglonorteamericana posterior.
