Synopsis "Daddy, what did you do in the war? (in English)"

American journalist Tom Brokaw gave us the term the Greatest Generation in his 1988 book of that title. It generally refers to the those who were born between 1910 and 1924. They are the men and women who lived through the Great Depression, fought in World War II and are the parents of the Baby Boomer generation. Sadly, there are so few of them left.Daddy, what did you do in the war? tells the story of Bob McBeth, a young man from Toronto, Canada, who joined the Royal Canadian Air Force with dreams of becoming a pilot and fighting the Germans in World War II. Sidelined by poor eyesight, he was instead assigned to an entertainment unit where he was Master of Ceremonies in All Clear, one of several travelling shows mounted by the RCAF. The show played to thousands of Allied troops, first in Canada and the USA, and later in England and Europe.Like many baby boomers, the authors are proud of what their parents, the greatest generation, had accomplished and were eager to hear all about their exploits in the war. Daddy, what did you do in the war? is not a story of heroism in fierce battle. Nor is it a story of death and dying, although there was plenty of that going on at the time. It is however, a funny, first-person tale of one man's experience in the war and well worth the read.
