Synopsis "Death of Faith (in English)"
In hopes of a better life for her husband, Charlie, and three children, Edna, Tina and Junebug, Ma is so determined to teach them to read that she risks their lives daily. The only book available to them is hidden underneath the floor of their cabin. The family is scared and frustrated by the rules of the Jim Crow Laws, but they persevere- hoping to one day have the right to vote and have a future generation of educators. Ma teaches her family to read, just as her mother taught her. Her mother's dream is realized when Ma is secretly hidden in a carriage and traveled dangerously from Haines, Florida, to Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she is educated.
