1814/15 versammelte der Wiener Kongress Vertreter aller europaischen Lander, um nach den Umbruchen dem Kontinent Ruhe und Sicherheit durch eine Friedensordnung zu verschaffen. Dem Kongress oblag dabei eine doppelte Aufgabe: zum einen die Regeneration Europas zu Wege zu bringen, zum anderen die deutschen Verhaltnisse neu zu ordnen. Die 34. Jahrestagung der Prinz-Albert-Gesellschaft widmete sich vor allem den gesamteuropaischen und globalen Aspekten. Groabritannien war, neben Russland, der eigentliche Gewinner, und es wirkt aus heutiger Sicht erstaunlich, dass der Kongress in der britischen Gedenkkultur einen nur nachgeordneten Rang einnimmt. In diesem Band kommen Inhalte, Zielsetzungen und Interessenverflechtungen ebenso zur Sprache wie volkerrechtliche und militarpolitische Aspekte. Einen eigenen Aspekt bildet die Beschaftigung mit den Folgen im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert, auch in Bezug auf den coburgischen Staat und dessen Dynastie.
