If delayed maternity is one of the features of Spanish fertility, the opposite is true of abortion: the women who undergo termination are doing so at an increasingly young age. Another noticeable feature is the increase in the recidivism rate, as well as the rise in the number of childless women who opt for abortion. Employed, unmarried women with no children, or just one child, account for the majority of abortions, since such characteristics have been shown to be the clearest determinants. The groups in which the largest increases have occurred are those comprising unmarried cohabiting women who are employed (excluding self-employed businesswomen), live in municipalities of less than 10,000 inhabitants, and have no children or just one, as well as those for whom abortion was option used previously.
