Der Frankfurter Reichssyndikus und Advokat Heinrich Kellner (1536-1589) entstammte einer Frankfurter Patrizierfamilie und wurde 1563 in Ferrara zum Doktor beider Rechte promoviert. Wie andere wohlhabende Burger seiner Heimatstadt besass er eine umfangreiche Bibliothek, uber die bisher nur wenig bekannt war. Das Ziel dieser Schrift ist es, die ehemals bedeutende Bibliothek des in Deutschland, den Niederlanden, Frankreich und Italien ausgebildeten Juristen Heinrich Kellner mit ihren gedruckten Buchern, Kunstbuchern, Handschriften und Manuskripten zu rekonstruieren und zu ordnen.
