Synopsis "Disecting script, story and directing in traditional African Theatre (in English)"
This book is meant to correct that impression and show that theatre is relative in terms of performance indices. Traditional African theatre especially Ekine theatre is unique in its sense of the use of the drum language of communication. The drum language of communication as ushered by the chief drummer embodies script and language of communication in performance. The drummers tones coordinates all aspects of the performance in Ekine drama. Nothing happens without him calling for it. He calls for rehearsals and coordinates and dictates all actions in the rehearsal process. When it comes to the performance he is an omnipresent director as he coordinates cues of the masquerade actors, tells masquerades when to come in, what to do, when to do it, how to do it. when to take a break and give way for another actor to come in. he coordinates composition of the various dramatic characters, their movements, rhythm, picturization, and pantomimic dramatization in the performance process as director.
