Diese erste deutschsprachige Einführung ins Vulgärlatein seit 40 Jahren beschäftigt sich mit den Änderungen, die zur Entstehung der romanischen Sprachen geführt haben. Die Geschichte dieser Sprachen ist über 2500 Jahre belegt, damit ein Idealfall für die historische Linguistik. Beschrieben werden die Änderungen in Phonologie, Morphologie, Syntax und Lexikon. Vorher werden die Forschungslage, Definition, externe Sprachgeschichte und die Quellenlage skizziert. Auch die griechischen Einflüsse und die Typologie werden behandelt. Ein Anhang bringt eine Übersicht der Verbformen und kommentierte Texte.
