En junio de 1885, tres franceses procedentes de París llegaron a Londres para «hacer adquisiciones intelectuales y
decorativas». Eran un príncipe, un conde y un plebeyo.
Este último, de origen provinciano y apellido italiano, se
llamaba Samuel Jean Pozzi. Era un dandi, un seductor que
tuvo innumerables amantes, un hombre culto y liberal
que tradujo al francés a Darwin, un pionero de la ginecología y también un cirujano. Su elegante figura fue inmortalizada por el gran pintor norteamericano establecido en
Europa John Singer Sargent en un célebre retrato en el
que posa ataviado con una bata roja. Barnes lleva a cabo
una indagación sobre este fascinante personaje, que acaba convirtiéndose en un sugestivo retrato cultural, social y
político de la Belle Époque. Por las páginas de este libro
