El Malvado Carabel, es una novela donde se describe el cambio de Amadeo Carabel, un hombre bondadoso e ingenuo, quien ilusionado con su próxima boda habla con su jefe le explica la situación y le pide un aumento de sueldo. Su jefe lo despide del trabajo, Carabel no logra entender por qué. Cuando se lo cuenta a su novia ésta lo deja por no casarse con un hombre sin trabajo y sin dinero. Carabel, sin amor y sin dinero, concluye que sólo los malvados triunfan en la vida, y decide irse por los caminos del delito.
