Esta monografía pretende acercarnos a las dificultades a las que se enfrenta una red de campo cuando intenta acceder y entrevistar a los ciudadanos. Debemos tener presente que el entrevistador adopta un gran protagonismo dentro del proceso de investigación por la gran influencia que tiene en la calidad de la información recogida. Sin embargo, y pese al gran número de encuestas que cada año se realizan en nuestro país, sabemos muy poco de la figura del encuestador, y mucho menos de cómo se desarrollan los trabajos de campo: ¿Qué horas son las mejores para hacer las entrevistas?, ¿quién acepta mejor ser entrevistado, los hombres o las mujeres?, ¿resulta problemático entrevistar a personas de determinados sectores sociales?... Son algunas de las preguntas que se busca responder con esta investigación. Trabajar conjuntamente con las "historias de vida laboral" y con los datos de los barómetros del CIS ha permitido recoger información sobre cómo ha evolucionado el trabajo de campo en los últimos treinta años. Ha permitido, también, poner de manifiesto cuáles son las principales carencias en la metodología de encuestas desde esta perspectiva: los problemas derivados del diseño de la muestra; los que tienen su origen en la elaboración del cuestionario, y los relativos al entrevistado, el entrevistador y la participación en encuestas.This monograph aims to offer us an insight into the difficulties facing field network when it tries to approach and interview citizens. It is important to bear in mind that the interviewer plays a key role in the research process due to his or her considerable influence on the quality of the information gathered. However, and in spite of the vast number of surveys conducted every year in our country, we know very little about the figure of the survey interviewer, and even less about how field surveys are carried out: what are the best times of day for conducting interviews?; who take more kindly to being interviewed, men or women; and is it difficult to interview people belonging to certain social sectors?... These are just some of the questions that this investigation tries to answer. Combining "working life histories" with data from the CIS barometer surveys has made it possible to gather information about how fieldwork has evolved over the last thirty years, and to highlight the main shortcomings of the survey methodology from this perspective: the problems arising from the design of the sample; those which stem from the preparation of the questionnaire, and those relating to the interviewee, the interviewer and participation in surveys.
