Farto da extrema pobreza que padece en Mali, Suleimán decide marchar co seu amigo Musa na busca dunha vida mellor en Europa, onde esperan traballar, conseguir diñeiro para voltar ao seu país, abrir os seus negocios e axudar as súas familias. A viaxe resulta dura e difícil: cruzan o deserto en camións escangallados, ateigados de xente tan desesperada coma eles; chegan á fronteira con Melilla pero, ao cruzar a reixa fronteiriza, son arrestados e expulsados. Tras perder Musa, Suleimán loita por sobrevivir e volve intentalo por mar, dende as costas de Senegal ata Gran Canaria.
