Synopsis "Fausto"

Goethe es, probablemente, el escritor alemán más conocido de todos los tiempos. Gran parte de su vida la dedicó a la redacción de Fausto, su obra cumbre. En ella nos entrega uno de los grandes prototipos humanos: el hombre dominado por el ansia de alcanzar la felicidad y la sabiduría suprema, por desvelar el sentido de la v ida. Para ello el protagonista tiene que rebasar los límites de lo permitido, pactar con el diablo en una apuesta dramática y correr el riesgo de sufrir la condenación eterna.

Poeta, novelista, dramaturgo, científico y político alemán. En la Universidad de Estrasburgo conoció a Herder, quien lo introdujo a las obras de Shakespeare y a quien ayudó después a crear el movimiento romántico alemán Sturm und Drang. En 1775 Carlos Augusto, heredero del ducado de Sajonia-Weimar, invitó a Goethe a vivir y trabajar en Weimar, que entonces era uno de los centros intelectuales y literarios de Alemania. Allí desarrolló una brillante carrera política que finalmente abandonó para dedicarse a viajar y a escribir. Es uno de mayores exponentes literarios del Romanticismo y para muchos el escritor más importante que han dado las letras alemanas.
