Synopsis "Ficus glomerata: A plant that own anticancer compounds (in English)"
Ficus glomerata Roxb (Moraceae) commonly known as 'cluster fig', is used extensively in Indian folk medicine for the treatment of various diseases. Fruits, leaves, bark and latex of the fig tree is used in traditional medicine. The role of flavonoids in biological systems appears yet to be far from definitively determined, involving a large number of research groups all over the world. Analytical and physical- chemistry techniques are applied for isolation, purification and characterization of flavonoid. The isolated compound is found to be dihydroxy myricetin and it has shown anticancer properties against prostate cancer cell lines and also testosterone induced prostate cancer in laboratory animals.
