Con el presente volumen pretende darse respuesta docente a una síntesis de la evolución histórica sobre los ordenamientos mediante los que se rigieron y organizaron diversas civilizaciones desde la Prehistoria hasta la Baja Edad Media. Estos han sido analizados desde una perspectiva hispánica pero sin desdeñar tampoco un aporte europeo que enriquezca una visión de conjunto. Para este fin no sólo se han tenido en cuenta los tradicionales postulados de la Historiografía del Derecho clásica, pues también estos han sido complementadas mediante estudios más recientes entre las disciplinas jurídicas, epigráficas, antropológicas, sociológicas y por supuesto históricas.
