Synopsis "Fortunata y Jacinta"

La novela Fortunata y Jacinta (1886-1887) es considerada la obra maestra de Benito Pérez Galdós y la narración más importante en lengua española después del Quijote. Obra cumbre del realismo literario español, la novela toma como escenario el Madrid castizo de finales del siglo XIX, donde los protagonistas, Juanito Santa Cruz y Fortunata, viven una tormentosa relación amorosa. Galdós refleja el palpitar de una época, sus movimientos anímicos, la hipocresía dominante en una burguesía que intenta superar su anquilosamiento en la búsqueda de la modernidad, la religiosidad asfixiante y dominante; y el papel de la mujer en la sociedad de entonces, con Fortunata y Jacinta como máximas exponentes de un diferendo que sigue en plena actualidad.
