Synopsis "horsefeathers: the therapeutic effect of equus (in English)"

Life without horses is possible but pointless. (proverb) What do you do when you find yourself, at long last, with a little extra money and a life-long passion for horses coursing undiminished through your veins? If you're like me, you build a little farm, collect some horses, move to a bigger farm, add more horses, start up a therapeutic riding program for special-needs kids... soon enough you no longer have that "extra money" to worry about. And you find yourself working like a madwoman to support your farm, your horses, and also trying to live a life. But what a life! It's not what I envisioned when we built that first farm as a retirement home for my old horse Oscar and a couple of his friends, but then who knew that he and I could put so many smiles on so many faces? Horses have always been a part of my life. Even before I had the chance to ride, they galloped through my dreams and lived in my sketches. I know what it's like to yearn for horses and to have no way to quell the yearning. And now I know the joy of sharing my own horses with others. Horsefeathers is the story of my journey from horse owner to horsewoman; from rider to coach; from one of the lucky few privileged to own a horse to even luckier in finding a way to share my passion with others. Although the names of our riders have been changed and their identities disguised, the stories not only happened, but continue to unfold every week in the stable and arena we built at the top of a hill in beautiful Oro-Medonte, Ontario.
