Mi padre, Aníbal Gómez Ortega, relataba que sus antepasados eran canarios y que arribaron a Margarita en un buque, cuyo mástil sirvió de base a la Quinta Santa Rita en el Valle del Espíritu Santo. Este mito primordial de nuestra familia, se ancló en mi mente, como la nave de nuestros ancestros en tierra firme margariteña, forjando un trecho del presente hacia el pasado.
